Alte Schweden is an emerging artist group formed in 2012 consisting of Joakim Hansson (FI) and Sebastian Mügge (SE), both graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Umeå, SE at Masters level. Alte Schweden work with experimental installatorial projects with participatory aspects from the audience set in post-revolutionary societies. Their main focus usually lies on discovering how societies (re)gain identity and distinct visions of the future. For each project they choose to collaborate with an external artist.

Alte Schweden´s works have recently been exhibited at Kalmar Konstmuseum (SE), Culture Factory Polymer (Tallinn, EE), Survival Kit International Contemporary Art Festival (Sigulda/Riga, LV), as well as at Pärnu City Gallery (EE).

During their stay at GeoAIR, artist group Alte Schweden  carried out a research project, together with Tbilisi-based artist Nikoloz Lutidze. The result of the stay was presented at CCA-Tbilisi, it included the material obtained during the residency in Tbilisi and special “Tbilisi Cake” making. Their collaborative work resulted in a joint installation at Kalmar Konstmuseum in Sweden.

The project was carried out in collaboration with Kalmar Konstmuseum.

Residency project was supported by ECF STEP Beyond and Byggnads Culture Grant (administered by a Swedish construction workers union).

Joakim Hansson and Sebastian Mügge would also like to thank Arts Promotion Centre Finland and Sparbanksstiftelsen Norr for their support during the preparatory period of this project.
